Ab toh aao saajana...

This is one of the songs that is responsible for my baptism to Indian Classical...Thumri by Pt.Ajoy Chakrabarty in raga pahadi.

One of the the easiest ragas to recognise( remember that song 'Kaise Jiyuga Main Agar Tu hehena Bani Meri Sahibaan Sahibaan...its the same raga!!this is how my husband teaches me to identify ragas :)) and so very melodious. You will like it even if you do not have the ear for classical but have the patience and desire to appreciate...which is worth it!!

so without much ado here it is ( do forgive the abrupt ending...this is all i could manage)

ab toh aao sajna-mp3

dujone dekha holo...

check this song out from Gitobitan...i 'm in love with this song these days

Gitobitan link

i'm sorry to say that i have not yet been able to find a translation and therefore have been forced to translate it...literally.Ofcourse much of the beauty of this song which lies in the layers of meaning as against the deceivingly simple lyrics is lost in translation.
please dont kill me for trying!!

and finally,as i had promised here is the link to the Rabindrasangeet...a Sagar Sen rendition.

dujone dekha holo-mp3

The two met.And a honeysweet night it was
Why didn’t they speak a word. Why did they part
The south wind blowing in the woods is lamenting the loss
The swinging boughs are pleading for a reunion
Both parted with tearful eyes, unbeknownst to the other.
words from the heart remained unspoken in their hearts
Never did they meet again. Alone in this world of woe
Parted forever, on the Jamuna banks.
