cucurrucucu paloma

We are now waching a Spanish movie called talk to her which incidentally won an academy award and the golden globe in 2002.

I'm posting this original sound track from the movie, which is actually a mournful lament for lost love.In the movie this wonderful song by Caetano Veloso is complemented by an equally moving picturisation.

In case you want to follow the song in Spanish and want to know the meanings, i've found a translation of the song and have posted both the versions.

Wucurrucucú, no llores.
Las piedras jamás, paloma,
Qué van a saber de amores?

Cucurrucucú, cucurrucucú,
Wucurrucucú, paloma,
Ya no le llores.

In English these lyrics transalate into:

They say that at night he didn’t do anything but cry.
They that he didn’t eat and didn’t do anything but drink.
They swear that heaven shuddered when it heard his cry,
How he suffered for her, calling out to her even as he died.

Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, he sang.
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, he wept.
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, he sang.
As he died of mortal passion.

That a sad dove came that morning to sing to him,
To the small house with its windows open wide.
They swear that the dove is nothing less than his soul,
That is still waiting for her to come back, her, the unfortunate.

Cucurrucucú, dove,
Cucurrucucú, don’t cry.
The stones never do, dove,
What do they know of love?

Cucurrucucú, cucurrucucú,
Cucurrucucú, you don’t cry any more.

kayaking is fun !!!

We had our first kayaking experience at Key Largo during our thanksgiving holiday. The gentleman hiring out the boats had doubts about our return...alive, since we'd never done it before...we did bump into the mangrove trees once in a while but considering the fact that we were first timers we didnt do so bad at all...as is evident from the pic :)dont we look like pros!!!
wow!!there was this whole different world to having fun and we discover that so late!!anyways, from now on whereever we go, looking out for opportunities to kayak will be first priority!!

the monarchs

every year a wonderful phenomenon occurs in nature which has fascinated entomologists and amateaurs alike. It is the migration of the monarch butterflies who travel great distances to spend the winter in a temperate climate. Some of these butterflies travel over 2,900 kilometers, just to overwinter in some places in Mexico. Each Autumn, thousands of Monarch Butterflies gather in southern Canada to migrate south.Monarchs west of the Rocky Mountains travel to small groves of trees along the California coast. Those east of the Rocky Mountains fly farther south to the forests high in the mountains of Mexico. Amazingly, not one butterfly makes the entire round-trip journey. As they travel, they breed and perish and its their children and grandchildren who move on to the next stop.

wondering what i'm talking about?well...last weekend we were very lucky to witness the tagging of these butterfiles who stop at St mark's national wild life refuge,FL every year on their southward journey.although St mark's does not host the largest number of them it was wonderful to witness one of the miracles of nature....at that instant, after years of urbanisation and resultant alienation from the elements...u want to burst with feelings of wonder and awe at the at once terrible and beautiful goddess Nature.

lets play!!

try this game now that u are here and are trying hard to kill some time...u might as well try this :)
